I have more than 25 years experience
writing marketing materials and technical communications in a variety
of business settings—including corporate, agency, and independent
contracting. In addition, I have ten years experience as an editor in
the publishing industry. |

Bolt Beranek & Newman
|
| I began my career as a senior editor for
Bolt Beranek & Newman (BBN), a leading consulting firm located in
Cambridge, Massachusetts, and specializing in acoustics and computer
science. BBN was known as the “third university” of Cambridge, because
so many students from Harvard and MIT went to work for the company
after graduation. BBN designed the acoustic architecture for the top
concert halls throughout the world. In addition, the company conducted
advanced computer science research, including development of ARPANET,
the first Internet network, in the late 1960s and the first email
system in 1972. As a senior editor, I wrote, edited, and managed the
production of marketing materials, technical reports, and government
proposals. |

| For more than eight years, I worked as an
independent contractor in the northern California publishing industry.
In this capacity I edited and rewrote books for the top college
textbook and trade publishing houses in the Bay Area—including
Wadsworth, Addison Wesley, McGraw-Hill, and the University of
California Press. |

Wm. Nesbit & Associates

| I served for 12 years as contract manager
and eventually senior vice president for a 15-person marketing
communications agency, Wm Nesbit & Associates (WN&A). There I was
responsible for coordinating the production of a wide range of
marketing publications—among them brochures, newsletters, annual
reports, product sheets, magazine articles and web content. I was also
responsible for developing new business, managing contracts, preparing
budgets, and setting schedules. |

In 1999, I established my own writing and
editing agency. The agency specializes in publication of marketing
collateral in energy, medicine, and other high-tech fields, as well as
in the winery industry. I am responsible for the majority of writing
and editing, and I work with a network of skilled graphic designers
and layout specialists in order to offer the full spectrum of
publication services.
I was awarded the Artists Fellowship for Fiction, an annual award from
the Massachusetts Arts and Humanities Foundation, in 1977, and am
currently writing my first novel.Professional associations in which
I am a member include: editcetera (a Bay Area collaborative of
professional writers and editors), Bookbuilders (a national
association of publishing professionals), and the Society for
Technical Communication (a national association of technical writers).
I have a BA from Antioch College in Yellow Springs, Ohio, and an MA
from the University of Leicester, Leicester, England. |
